Integrating Theory and Practice Paper: 25% of course grade
Students will complete an original paper that integrates course material, theories, and concepts with real-world best practices, case studies, issues/challenges, and trends. Students may choose any topic relevant to the course, including job analysis/job description development, job evaluation, recruitment strategy, selection strategy, employee performance management, and employee training and development strategy.
The paper should be a minimum of 8 pages (including title page and references page, which means the content should be at least 6 full pages of paragraph-style text in length: this also means minimal-to-none bullet-pointed lists, graphs/figures, and quotes) and follow APA format. Reference sources should be credible and accurate, such as books, peer-reviewed journal articles, business periodicals, and news sources. It will be necessary to explore current events articles, newspapers, and magazines to get a sense of what is trending right now and what specific areas within these topics are relevant to practitioners today.
The paper should be structured as follows:
Title page;
Introduction/overview and explanation of the topic area, and why you selected it to examine;
Organizational relevance and focus on this topic – what are the trends, challenges, and best practices as reported by organizations;
Theory, concepts, and research that you have learned about in any of your coursework (e.g., performance management and employee motivation theory, equity theory, personality testing as a selection practice, training programs and learning styles and preferences) important to this topic area that you recommend organizations should understand and apply for greater effectiveness and success;
Conclusion – tie all your loose ends together and wrap up the paper with a logical ending;
